This article was about the first forms of contraception and the opposing views of it. Many Catholics did not want contraception to be legal because they believed that people were meant to have children if they got pregnant. As the years progressed, contraception has become a part of many people’s lives but still Catholics were not okay with this. Besides the fact that they thought it was morally wrong, they thought that if people would accidently get pregnant, abortion rates would increase which is not accepted in the Catholic Church. I chose this article because I believe that it had shown the history behind contraception and from what the article said, the church would not want children to learn about sexual education and contraception in schools
My reaction to this article was shocked. I am a member of the Catholic Church, however I do believe that people should make choices for themselves regardless of what people think or say about it. Overall I believe the use of contraception is a smart way to stay safe especially in teenage and college years. Because our elders did not once believe in it, I think that as time has changed they do want whats best for the future generations especially now with all the new diseases and infections found.

There are many risks with taking the pill on an everyday cycle or even taking the morning after pill. Older researchers believe that young women will feel like they can be more promiscuous because they have the pill as a back –up while others believe that all females should have the option to take it. An eighty year old woman had even said that she would want her young granddaughters on it because you never know what can happen, which is true. One night could change the rest of your life.
I myself am on birth control and it has not given me side effects in any way. Although there are many side effects that could potentially occur, it is one of the safest ways to prevent pregnancy. Because many people are on birth control because of irregular periods or excess cramps I believe that if it were that dangerous doctors would not prescribe there patients such medicines and that they would be no longer sold. Students should be taught in schools about both the positive and negative effects the pill could have on females because you can receive birth control without parental consent.
This article is about a man named Timothy E. Vislocky who argued that schools giving out condoms without parental consent was like giving childrencigarettes to smoke without parental consent. However Dettmann responds by saying that kids can have sex with or without a condom but kids can't smoke if they don't have a cigarette. He goes on to say that it is important to have children be aware and learn to be safe because sexual intercourse is something that frequently occurs in high school years.
I agree with Dettmann for many reasons. I know many people who are uncomfortable talking with there parents about sex or just have parents that would never even say sex around there kids. I think it is important for school to teach children about sex in there teenage years because they could end up pregnant or with a sexually transmitted infection. Also I think schools in poorer area's should be supplying students with condoms so that the teenage birth and abortion rate would decrease. It is important to educate students with what will become a part of their future, students that are unaware cannot always make the right decisions when it comes to sex, like wearing a condom or not wearing one.
This article is about the extreme birth rate in the Philippines. Due to lack of the basic contraception about 800,000 pregnancies in this country are unplanned. By giving this country contraception it would save about 2,100 women’s lives, 500,000 fewer abortions, and 200,000 less miscarriages. With the left over money that the country pays on all of the hospital expenses etc. it could be used to focus on more of the countries bigger problems. All of these unwanted pregnancies can help be resolved with one thing, sexual education in schools.
I think that it is extremely sad that less fortunate countries cannot afford to supply contraception for there residents however as this article pointed out, the country would end up saving money if it had. Countries like the Philippines have an extreme population because of the lack of contraception and reducing the amount of births each year could potentially stabilize the country for the better. I think it is important to help the countries that cannot afford the proper forms of birth control because although one country in the whole world does't seem like much, it could seriously benefit us all. If a country like this could not afford contraception, it should be mandatory to inform students in schools about sexual education that way they can decide when they are ready for a child. If teachers were to teach young adults then there would be much less unplanned and unwanted pregnancies.
This article was about oral contraception’s. It talks about how the birth rate in the U.S. has not been this low since the Great Depression which is not a bad thing. The article also talks about the pill, injections that can be monthly, even yearly, as well as intra-uterine devices. With the birth rate decreases, this gives our country the ability to spend money to pay back debt however without the right knowledge about sexual education and using contraception properly than this cannot be done.
Again, I believe that any form of birth control is better than none. Not only are you protected for yourself but you are protected against others that may have a disease or infection. When using birth control I believe that it should be prescribed by a doctor if it is a pill and if it is not it is best to talk to a doctor when you have any questions. Students should not hear about the pill just from other students that are prescribed but they should be taught by certified teachers whose job it is to teach sexual education. CONCLUSION: I believe that with all of the research I have done I have learned a lot about Sexual Education. I have learned that although it may mature a students mind faster than parents may want, it is important to inform all students about the safety precautions they need to know before engaging in sexual intercourse. The more students know the less diseases and infections will spread and this will overall benefit the world around us. In my opinion I think sexual education has improved my knowledge and decision making growing up. As we continued learning about it from middle school through high school from my town in New York people understood what to expect and how to be safe especially when being on your own in college. When I get older I do want my children learning about sexual education in schools as long as it is appropriate for their age group. I am glad my group had picked this topic because it was interesting to learn about when people began using contraception and the different views people have of it. Also while reading I was able to learn about a few different types of birth control there are which I will be sharing with the class.
